With roots in Ethiopia and cultivated in the Middle East since the sixth century, Coffea Arabica carries a rich history, being used extensively where it has come into contact with human beings. It is the most popular coffee species in the world followed by Coffea Canephora. After two to five years the plants produce white flowers in the spring and develop dark red berries, each seed containing two coffee beans.  It makes an attractive houseplant with beautiful characteristic dark green, glossy leaves

Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon varietal discovered on a plantation in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil sometime between 1915 and 1918. The name ‘Caturra’ refers to its dwarfism, stemming from the Guaraní word for ‘small’. The Caturra bean carries a mild aroma and taste with a pronounced sourness, with fruity hints of cherry.

Growing Tips:

Caturra coffee can be easily grown as an indoor ornamental houseplant with minimal care. Keep it as a window plant for sunlight or keep it shaded outside. Feed every two weeks from spring through fall and once a month in winter with a 10-10-10 fertilizer. Keep soil thoroughly moist but not soggy in spring and summer, barely moist in fall and winter. The ideal humidity is 50%.
